Silberman School of Social Work

Student Commission

Social Activism

I met Hunter College Silberman School of Social Work students, Rashad Beliard and Aaron-Joseph-Williams, at Kingsborough Community College during an internship that, for them, did nothing but waste their time. They were both pushed into a required internship that had little to do with their major or area of interest, and were poorly supported by management throughout the experience.  Talking to these two students showed me that there aren't only systemic barriers to finding Black male therapists, but also in becoming one. Silberman School of Social Work is ranked #1 for social work graduate programs in the nation… but do the students feel the same way? This project was commissioned to highlight their voices, and incite tangible change within the SIlberman administration.
