The Ones Still Home:
Incarcerated Photography
Abstract
My name is Damani Douglas, a Communication Design student at New York City College of Technology. But my family knows me better as the son of Paul Douglas, a falsely accused and convicted black man sent to prison when I was 3 years old. Now, 16 years later, I have researched the history of racial inequality in the criminal justice system while exploring the depths of my own grief to create a photo series on how the U.S. mass incarceration system disenfranchises black men by dismantling their families. In turn, reminding minorities to take charge in their own communities by using their voices to step up and speak out against inequality, injustice, and inequity.
